one hundred and one

One Hundred and One

The 100th photo, so about to be time that I show you my 1st beershirt.

Well, it was the moment that it came up to my mind that I wanted to have more shirts.

A collection was started. My body became my own museum.

I swapped it with the brewer of Flying Fish. He visited Amsterdam for the Bockbierfestival.

I'm still gratefull.

Simon asked me why I didn't place a T on the stairs of De Wildeman.

Oh yeah, they have stairs too, I thought. It'll look great.

I'd better do that, I replied to Simon, when there are no customers in the pub.

But now I'm looking for stairs all the time.

Or, that happened earlier this week, I feel sorry when I forgot to use stairs to for showing another T.

I don't have stairs at my own place. I only have a stepladder here.

He took us with him to his stock.
It was 15 min walking.

It was worth it.
We could take a look at his wooden kegs.
We could even drink something from it.

Oh, heaven is here, we realized.

Heaven should be photographed.

But I left my T's at the brewery itself. No photograph without a T.

Wait, I remembered suddenly, I am wearing a longsleeves that's not been registered yet.

I explained Menno, the brewer.

Do you know the sign on this T-shirt, I asked him.

Yep, it's Gadd's, he replied. A good friend of mine.

Sometimes I'm getting crazy of all those empty bottles. We don't have enough crates to store them in a decent way.

The day starts with sorting out what can be placed in a crate where the bottles fit in.

Mess. Always a mess.
Alway trying to get rid of it.

We had finished the blind tasting of 10 tripels.

& Just like schooldays I was the 1st to sit somewhere else.

It seems like I intuitively know the places where people will gather.

Before they joined me I hanged this T in a tree in the La Trappe garden. I took a photograph.

Then I turned around & waited for the conversations about to happen.

It's nearly always the same.
I really don't mind that though.

While we were waiting I told the people about the amount of T's I collected during the years.
& That I was placing photographs of them on Flickr.

Most of the people still don't know what Flickr is.

We were waiting. For the Belgians to arrive.

In the meantime I photographed the shirt I'd just bought at the shop of La Trappe.

It's strange to take a picture while people are watching you.
It is as if the things won't do what you want them to do.

Finally I succeeded.
It was at the moment nobody was interested in me anymore. The Belgians had just arrived.

les brasseries

Les Brasseries

This is the backside. Frontside has the logo of Brasserie Fantome. A nice little brewery in the Belgian Ardennes.

I liked the shirt, I told Hugh the evening before we left for the Kent Beerfestival.

Well, we 1st gonna try to sell it at the festival, he said. You may have it when we don't.

We didn't.

Timothy Taylor

I do have another T from the same brewery.

The backside of it says: A real winner seeks long term relationship.

I'm afraid I don't dare to wear that one. It's asking for stupid remarks.

Especially because I'm a long term single.

Hogs Back

This is the flour of the Bierkoning. The flour in the cellar, where are stock is located.

You can see some pieces of broken glass laying there. Exploding bottles.

Once a bottle broke right at the moment I turned my head around. One piece of glass just passed my head. I could hear it passing.
Then it hit a beerglass, in the shelves standing to the side of cellar.

That exploded too.

It's a really dangerous job, you know, selling beer.

It says: I was lost - but now I'm Founders.

This electricity controlpanel is normally surrounded by a sort of a box. A case you can pick up, so you can have full sight at the panel.

It looks pretty professional.

Probably it's not so different from other company's controlpanels. But I think this 1 looks quite fascinating.

We have new shirts.
From now on we'll be having shirts with the logo's of our beers too.

But off course this one is extra special.
Longsleeves. Green colour.
There is just 1!

It's hanging on a fence at Koningshoeve. Trappistbrewery close to Tilburg.
Also known under the name La Trappe.

We had to do a tasting. 5 Dutch & 5 Belgian triples.
Holland vs Begium.

De Zatte just didn't make it to that competition.

The Belgians won.

But this was the only triple-shirt at the competition.

Fresh hops. Out of my garden.
I harvested them the day before yesterday.

There was some harvesting going on in Poperinge too, last week.
We were watching it, alongside the street.

We found some hopflowers next to where we were standing.
Eat it, Bob said.
So I did.

Everything was hops, the rest of the day.

This is the warming room by the way. It's 28 degrees there.
The hops must be dried. So we can use it as decoration in our pub.

Was sent via mail. The old version of it.
Some guys working at the bottling line of Red Hook.

& Because I started doing the things I had to do I thought it was nice to show the place I'm always thinking about when I'm in a hurry.

This is the last stop before leaving home.

Lots of people will never know where this is being photographed. They will just never be at the place where I stood at that moment.

& If they do, they still won't be aware of it.

That's fascinating I think.

You see some stones. Put together. Moss and dead leaves.

I was there. A few days ago. At the backside of the St. Sixtus-abbey, where I bought some Westvleteren 12.

People can pray here. This place is devoted to Maria & her 7 sorrows. There are a few benches to sit on, so one can prey.

The monks themselves can sit behind a fence. One small bench there.

I walked around freely & took some photographs.

I could have named this one 'Stairs 2' also.
But the pictures are not only about the surroundings.

2001 Was the 2nd time I joined the staff of the Kent Beerfestival.
But I can't remember exactly what was special about it.

That I decided to make a holiday out of it. I stayed longer, walked the North Downs Way.

Did I also join the Great British Beer Festival? Or was that the year after?

I know I was scared. Didn't know what to do when I would get homesick.

It was awful to be on an island where you're depending on the date your returnticket is valid.

It was a great holiday though.

Most of the time people don't understand the combination of those 2 different feelings.

Or should I say Zelco?

I trie to pronounce the 'h' a little bit. Together with the 'z', where his name starts with.

I probably pronounce his name the wrong way. But at least I trie hard.
Each time I'm trying to think about the possible right pronounciation.

It was Zhelko who gave me this T.

& I thank him for that. It's a nice one.

Backside: 'Save the planet, drink organic.'

Arrived home yesterday evening.
Unpacked everything. My house a mess.

During the short holiday Mary asked me how my house was doing.
I answered: a mess.

It's even worse now.

This T I didn't want to have. It wasn't looking good.

I bought it a the auction of the Kent Beerfestival, the last evening, festival staff only.

My money went to a good cause. The T to me.

I will be leaving tomorrow. Poperinge it'll be.

That's close to Westvleteren. Close to Vleteren also. Where they make Antiek.

I'm pretty sure that we're gonna visit the 1st brewery. 2 Crates are waiting for us.

Maybe we'll visit the Deca brewery also. In Vleteren.

But that depends. If my American friends are experienced enough riding their bikes we will go there.

So people have to wait several days for the next T.
We won't have wifi in Poperinge, you see.

Her breasts are hanging at my back.

I don't bother about it too much.

But it's a pity that people, when they see me standing behind the counter of the shop, have to look at the logo of the Winthrop Brewery.

They could have seen so much more.

ugly people

Ugly People

This is 1 of those T's everybody wanted to have.

I was glad I collected it in the UK. At a beerfestival.
I knew it would be difficult for other people to arrive at such a happening.

I don't like to wear the same clothes as other people do.
Especially when it's the same T.

There was 1 guy who managed to get it.

I won't serve him beer when he's wearing the same T today.

They said they liked this one the most. It would fit me the best.
Of all the shirts they had seen at the GABF, the Great American Beer Festival.

I thought it was alright. I was too happy people brought a T back home especially for me.

Although I'm not a Goth.

And that quilt, that's what we call a grand foulard.
Each night I'm sleeping underneath it.

Unless it's dirty. Than it's hanging here, where it's hanging now, waiting for the moment it's dry enough to be used again.

The sign says that people got to take care of their bathhouse tickets.

The brewery I work in used to be a public bathhouse.

Funny they made a special sign for it.

I sometimes think we should make a sign to ask people to bring their glasses back inside.

But that always reminds me of a Dutch owned campsite in Belgium.
They had signs for everything.

Don't put certain dirt in the bins at toilets.
No fire after a certain time.
At 8 the dustbin would be emptied. No dustbags were therefore accepted between 8 & ½ 9.
Payment should be done before 12. Otherwise one should be registered for another day.

Everywhere. Handwritten signs. Laws. You shouldn't break.

It was not so long after the ending of the war in Serbia the couple entered the beershop.

I think I told them the only beerthings I collected was beershirts.

This is a beershirt, the man said, pointing at his shirt.

So we swopped.

But nowhere on the T it says it is beer. Or that it is about beer.

I do believe the man. I know it's beer.
But I don't dare to wear it.

So I'll just do it today.

I don't accept remarks about it though.

castle rock

Castle Rock

I love floors. Taking photographs of it.
I didn't know floors were that nice to look at, untill I started searching for locations to photograph my shirts.

It can be so filthy.
Strange objects on it.

It suits so nicely with certain T's.

I'm afraid you're about to see lots of floors. With T's laying on it off course.

barking dog

Barking Dog

This is where I sit. Mondays, Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays.
During the afternoon. Just for 1 hour. Maybe a little bit more.

During 2 beers, one could say.

Reading, that's all I do. Besides drinking those beers.

Maybe a little chat with the bartenders.

Trying not to get distracted by other customers.

I want to read. As much as possible.
And here I can concentrate.

Better than staying at home, where internet is on 24/7.

birrificio lambrate

Birrificio Lambrate

I woke up after a long day of hard working.
I remembered Sas was celebrating her birthday.

I'd better take a shower, I thought.
I'd better shave some hear underneath my beard.
I'd better change shirts.
I'd better turn on a T that's looking like summer.

Italian, I thought.

I'd better take something with me.

Italian beer, I thought.

That'll suit my T.

Produtta e imbottigliata presso il Birrificio Bruton.

At least it looks good with my shirt.

Is there an English word for? Never heard of it.

So I'm quite sure I'm gonna use the wrong words here.

It's a sort of a bin where you can save newspapers & magazines in. Found it at the attic of an old man whose appartment I could occupy temporarily after that he passed away. It was in a building that should be demolished within half a year.

The attic was totally filled up with old stuff. Also lots of pigeon food.
& Because of that lots of flees.
Flees love pigeons, I had to conclude after visiting the attic.

When I got downstairs with this 'newspaperbin' my legs were itching & looking as red as the T here.

Got this one from Tony. Nice lad who visited Amsterdam 1 month ago.

magic hat

Magic Hat

A strange thing is that I'm always in a hurry when I have to leave home.

It's not that I start too late. There is too much to do.

The same, ever occurring problem, everytime.

So now you know why you won't get to know anything about this T.
Or it's surroundings for that short moment when it was about to get photographed.

I just had to take a shower before leaving for work.
